Every year students have the opportunity to travel as members of Doane’s elite musical organizations. The choir tours internationally every three (3) years. Both the band and choir take a major two-week tour every 3 years. Recent tours have included:
Doane ensembles have been selected to perform for numerous conferences, including the Nebraska Music Education Association and the American Choral Directors Association.
Ensembles regularly tour throughout the Nebraska, the United States and internationally. The Doane Choir has sung in 13 countries, most recently Costa Rica.
The college owns two Steinway concert pianos. Significant gifts to the Music Department have made it possible to provide future upgrades of equipment, facilities and experiences for students.
Students in the music department are exposed to a wide variety of music that encompasses all historical eras, cultural contexts and aesthetic experiences.
The music department connects students through the relationship music has to other academic disciplines including the sciences, art, poetry, digital arts, language and history.
A student within Doane’s music department uses the study and performance of music to grow in the areas of teamwork, discipline, collaboration, self-motivation, professionalism and presentation. Additionally, we seek to cultivate emotional awareness, self-expression and the application of the aesthetic to the music being studied or performed.
